Baptist Health Hardin’s Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE)/Forensic program is the region’s only SANE-Ready designated program in Central Kentucky. Baptist Health Hardin is one of only a handful of hospitals in the state that is SANE Ready meaning that it provides 24-hour coverage. The hospital also is one of 12 in the state listed with the International Association of Forensic Nurses.
The program provides sexual assault patients with 24-hour comprehensive, compassionate and confidential care. SANE/Forensic services are available to pediatric through geriatric patients.
Victim of Crimes Act (VOCA)
The Foundation has received essential funding for the SANE program from Victims of Crime Act which has included the purchase of a colposcopy, advanced equipment for sexual assault victim exams and evidence collection/ documentation and funding for additional staff positions to provide 24-hour SANE availability, as well as training and certification for SANE nurses.
Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
The VOCA Grant will be used:
to purchase a colposcopy, advanced equipment for sexual assault victim exams and evidence collection/documentation;
to fund additional staff positions to provide 24-hour SANE availability; and
to provide training and certification for SANE nurses.
